Description:Kids Voting South Dakota Sioux Falls Flag Day Celebration is an annual event held on or around Flag Day (June 14) intended but not limited to children and veterans in the Sioux Falls area. The purpose of the event is to educate, celebrate and honor our U.S. Flag. The day is filled with interactive stations, music, food and educational messages focused on the flag, democracy, character and civic participation.
 
Kids Voting SD "Food for Thought" Social & Info Session
Dates:May 7, 2008 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Location:Georgia Morse MIddle School - Room 124 309 E. Capitol, Pierre, SD
Description:The local Pierre and Fort Pierre Kids Voting board along with the Pierre School District are hosting a "Food for Thought" Social & Information Session for Kids Voting South Dakota. Pierre/Ft. Pierre and other area school districts, teachers, community volunteers and sponsors are welcome to come and meet the local board and the State Kids Voting South Dakota Director,DeVee Dietz, to discuss the upcoming election.

Free refreshments will be served.

2008 South Dakota Project Citizen Showcase & Evaluation
Dates:Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Location:Pierre, SD
Description:South Dakota Project Citizen:
Introduces students to and educates them in the methods and produres used in our governmental processes. Students identify a real community problem; evaluate the various sides, opinions and concerns involved; develop a class proposed public policy; and present and action plan to community leaders.

South Dakota Project Citizen participating schools will display and present their class portfolios and documentation binders to a panel of evaluators.

8 am - 1 pm Project Citizen Showcase in Capitol Rotunda
9 am Evaluator Training
10 am - noon Evaluation of Portfolios/Binders
1 pm - 4 pm Project Citizen Oral Presentations
4 pm Awards Ceremony

2008 Kids Voting South Dakota 11th Annual Liberty Ball Game

Description:An annual event featuring the South Dakota House of Representatives versus the South Dakota Senate in a fun and challenging basketball game as a major fundraiser for the Kids Voting South Dakota statewide program.

2007 South Dakota Women's Summit

Description:The South Dakota Women’s Summit was organized in 2005 by the Center for Civic Participation & Leadership and the Chiesman Center for Democracy as a call to action for women across South Dakota with an emphasis on increasing participation and leadership in the areas of civic participation, women’s health and business and technology. The mission of the summit is to provide a setting for the discussion of existing and developing women’s issues; and encourage connections between emerging and experienced leadership in search of strategies and solutions to improve the status of women in South Dakota.

The 2007 South Dakota Women’s Summit is scheduled for Friday, September 28th at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Sioux Falls.

2007 The Grantsmanship Training Program

Description:This workshop is designed for both the novice and the experienced grant seeker. It is an intensive 5-day workshop combining expert instruction with practical exercises to take you step-by-step through all the stages of planning programs, locating funding sources, and writing grant proposals. Participants’ current needs and programs are the basis of all class research and proposal writing exercises. Cost is $875 ($825 for each additional registrant from the same organization).
